Long day driving through a province under construction Listenin’ to music interrupted by instruction Riding shotgun between a couple married 50 years Or sitting in the backseat trying to figure out which one steers Sharing hotel rooms next stop please Put the slippers on and cut cheese Cause they want the morning dew They’ll be snoring… in two Pass another tree and start to feel at home Next time don’t lose sight and get there on your own Sharing hotel rooms next stop please Put the slippers on and cut cheese Though they don’t know what they do They’ll be snoring… in two

Last chance to catch a wave or two But we can’t decide… which is the one If this was the last dance then we'd know just what to do We’d stop… hunting for the sun Wasting Fine times. that beach was a fine time At least nine times, that’s more than just sometimes We had plenty good times, riding on the waves Can this be the way it stays for days Chorus: We would stop at any beach Driving down the coast Is it within our short reach Today we’ll hit the most Hunting for beaches Fine times. that beach was a fine time At least nine times, that’s more than just sometimes We had good times, riding on the waves Can this be the way it stays Chorus: We would stop at any beach This much fun must be the most Is it within our short reach Here on the coast

The crab without a claw Made it to Utah Without a destination in mind And when he looked back He always had a knack Of keeping one eye on the mercy I need to find The fox made a good point There’s fire in his joints Then told everyone his secret identity In wandered the clawless craaaab Who had to take a stab At being someone else while being that free He told us he never saw the end We told him everything that we knew He told us he just needs a hand from a friend Why ask us for something he can’t do Like me and you The crab without a claw Can’t see what I saw After he left and went his way We all got different hearts Thanks to missing parts He won’t look back again today

One hook four fish One table four dish See you again See you again Tomorrow One hook four fish One Rod four kids See you again See you again See you again Tomorrow One mouth four voices One hook four noises One van four wheels One hook four meals See you again See you again See you again See you again Tomorrow

Ahhhhh (a bunch of them) Here I am on the other side of the island (repeat)

Oh, darling, we didn’t think we’d last the weekend after our first date My darling, you got to the east side, I’m on the west, I’m running late Sorry, I let the time go Sorry, but I will still show Inspire me, I didn’t think you’d pick up while I’m pointing to the past Your eyes see… the details in my answers as they spill out way too fast Ooh, I let myself go Oooh, is there time to grow Chorus: You had the knowledge that you’ll always have each other on a rainy day You had a shoulder to lean on when you were having a bad day So lovely, our parents stayed together for a long, long time I can’t see… a way to get that way while keeping everything that’s mine Oooh, don’t let me go Ooh, I won’t let you go (solo) Ooh I won’t let you go Oooh don’t let me go Whoa! Together for a half a century

We are at sea, scared to death An outcast from a tossed collection There is a calm before the storm The sky looks hot, an intersection The rain that reigned, so heavily rained Every day for our protection It’s too late for me We sail above no where It’s too dark to see down there Despite these sails we are frozen A scream to waste our last breath At least the wind will get me dry And high, so high above rainy clouds I could fly away I don’t need to swim Night could last a day Turn attention in There’s a storm on board Let the anchor steer Don’t look to the lord It’s too dark for him down here It’s time to scream my last breath When the depths below call to me Is there time to say good bye To the sun, to the moon, to the stars, every light Eternity A flightless bird, I’ll keep my wings In the dark… In the darkness… Down in the dark… We spent too long above the sea Today we’ll go below

Never soul mates We share four walls Call us roommates Making our calls With the lights off We define silence Over enough Where… is the common sense Out with the lights Middle of night Out with my sight No strength to fight Chorus: Red glowing embers burn on this morn Sailors are leaving their homes Empty cages pulled up, nets all torn Sometimes you’re better alone Horrible worries on open sea Sailing away from your love Is it below or is that just me Sometimes it’s better above Bridge: Oooooh Quarter to 4 The clock is wrong Talking some more Just how long Quarter to sleep Without wake Dreaming too deep What does it take We can’t be roommates We can’t be roommates We can’t be roommates We can’t be mates

My cousin from the east coast showed up to our family BBQ with water balloons. Nothing releases tension and pressure like a balloon. She brought the type that has like 50 balloons all on one tree. You hook up to one hose and all 50 fill up at the same time. Get right to the fun. Get to the F-U-N fun. We split them up as we split ourselves up. I couldn’t resist of course. What I don’t understand is why people are afraid to get hit. They cower like it’s going to hurt. I’ve never been hurt by a water balloon. I don’t think it’s possible. Maybe a baby. So, with my arms stretched out like I was going for a hug, I walked right into a barrage of balloons. Not one… Not one… not one of them hit me. I guess they were so excited about an easy target that they didn’t aim. My nephew was throwing them like he hoped they would hurt me. Maybe that hurt me.

We’re parting without saying good-bye We’re going without a hug We can’t wait to get home, you understand We’re going without a word, we have no time I’m watching you leave and shouting out I’m hoping you turn around I say what I hope to hear There’s still time to leave okay Chorus The flight is delayed There’s time to re-say all that we said The flight is delayed I hope we’re okay, you don’t seem to care You just walk away Delayed There wasn’t a good excuse No one will look around The reason you just want to go You’re going without a word (Chorus)
13.
Thorns and itchiness and the eyes of the lord Can’t wait to go home For the comfort and the warmth that you give Can’t wait to leave you To do what you do Foreign beds and floors creak louder than mine I guess they were fine Back to what you know with no time to waste You get older with age Chorus: Driving all night through a province that wants to appear new I’m in no rush because I have no home to go to Didn’t see a thing but those lights will flicker You just moved quicker Urgent moves and highway grooves took you all the way You’ll be home today Chorus: Driving all night through a province that wants to appear new I’m in no rush because I have no home to go to Driving at night we don’t talk about what we just went through I’m in no rush because I have no home to go to No home to go to No home to go to Here I am on the other side of the island Here I am on the other side of the island With no home to go to

To celebrate my parents 50th anniversary, the whole family went to Fox Point, Nova Scotia for a week at the end of August. It was a rare opportunity for all of us to be together.
